Tetris Couldn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification Could Fix That

As any major awards ceremony approaches, there’s always a demand for introducing of new categories to recognize overlooked contributions and delight the passions of followers dedicated to specific genres.

Another commentator previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. The same goes for board games, which is someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize because like all single-minded supporters, I have a cast-iron argument for why my demand is the most urgent and important of all. Here's the proposal: There should be a category for puzzle games.

Categorizing Game Types

Categorizing art by genre is not a science; it’s very subjective, and inevitably start arguments and end in fuzzy definitions. This explains why film award organizations avoid this approach. But it is an unavoidable compromise in the world of gaming, showing incredible range they hardly constitute one unified medium.

For the full spectrum of achievement in video games to be recognized, while allowing diverse titles to compete fairly, genre categories are essential.

Present Award Structure

Leading game ceremonies presently include award types recognizing Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Together, these six categories successfully include a lot of ground, and you can find room for most games within them.

This doesn't apply to puzzle games. There’s simply nowhere for their placement. Think about these recent excellent titles, showing diverse approaches: building puzzles in a particular game, intense tile-matching in a different title, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles of a third title. Which classification works among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.

Recognition Challenges

Many instances occur excellent brain-teasers launched regularly that have no home in entertainment awards, except when they manage to fit classification types such as Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested independent game categories.

  • A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated in any category that year
  • Another creative title missed out that year
  • A beloved organization game got ignored that year
  • Only a few logic titles barely qualified for independent or mobile categories

Importance of Logic Titles

These are often modest productions, yet the craft behind logic titles carries substantial weight. Well-known matching games stand as most engaged experiences in the world continuing this trend for many years.

The iconic tile-matching title competes with famous sandbox experiences competing to become best-selling game of all time; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, while interacting with diverse game types.

The Solution and Justification

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter such difficulty. You could fill multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences each ceremony simply — actually, with challenge, given the need to exclude numerous deserving experiences.

To emphasize again, these include experiences lacking appropriate categories in important events. Logic title developers operate at the demanding boundary interactive creation, creating some of the purest expressions of gaming itself. Just like cinema stunt performers, they deserve recognition. Don't make them wait 35 years.
