What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is highly rated and it's fair to claim it pioneered the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for detailed worlds, player agency, and complex character building—elements that later reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is classic fantasy, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust granted to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is brimming with niche playthroughs you can achieve by choosing a distinct build with a unique decision path.
The series is also famously flexible, letting players to experiment throughout the entire experience. Virtually all objectives can be solved in multiple ways, often in surprising fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you remembered something a dog told you.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by teleporting a glob of lava in a unorthodox way.
